Supply List for Bσhσ Art Retreats 2012
The goal with this list is to have you bring all of the necessities [and a little more] but to leave most of your craft supplies at home.
Think about the basic things that you always use when you’re creating: i.e. scissors, a few sizes of paint brushes, possibly a small paper trimmer, adhesives.
A small assortment of vintage papers, jewels, trims, etc. are fun to have on hand. Also a bit of scrapbooking paper is nice for variety.
Other necessary items:
A small set of jewelry tools similar to THIS – if you don’t have any you could get by with the least expensive set.
Two adhesives that you will really use are: E6000, Zip Dry and a hot glue gun. I love using stamp pads for distressing, adding color and, sometimes, even using with a rubber stamp. StazOn is my favorite brand because it’s permanent. You might pick up one or two neutral colors if you don’t already have some. I’m not trying to send you to Amazon with these links I just wanted to give you a visual. Each of these items can be purchased at Michaels.
Other things that might be nice:
a table-top lamp is highly recommended- reading glasses [if you use them like I do] – an apron – a respiratory mask for soldering - tennis shoes for an invigorating morning walk on a nice trail into the woods…who’s up for that one????
Here are some specifics for the individual workshops. I would encourage you to spend time looking at each workshop shop item and think of ways to make each one YOU. On the original post the workshops are numbered 1-5.
#1) bubble charm::This is small, it’s best to keep the design simple here. In the sample I have used a small snippet of my great grandmother’s fabric scraps for both sides. All soldering supplies will be provided.
#2) time piece:: Bring an old watch or time piece with large hands. I have used a small piece of scrapbook paper on the back. You could use whatever you want. You can also use the same quote I used or choose your own. If you want to have a charm or something hang from the bottom of this piece, that would be another way that you could make it unique. You will be taking the watch apart and you’ll make use of some of the tiny pieces in it. A set of eye glass tools might be helpful. Another way to make this YOU: the time could be set for something significant in your life: i.e. your time of birth, wedding, etc….
#3) chalkboard::You can bring your own paint for this or just use mine. Think about what you want to use this chalkboard for. That will help you design the top portion of it. We will do a 2×8 collage under glass and solder the edges.
#4) journal::As with the chalkboard, if you know what the purpose of this journal will be you can have fun with an overall theme. It would allow you to find some quotes that compliment it, photos that you might want to include, etc. Something I like to do when I make a journal is to make the pages inside also unique. As you will also be adding the inside pages, bring the paper for the inside. It can make it fun and unique to use a variety of fun papers. I also took file folders and made them into page dividers. I would suggest that you bring a variety of options [for the inside] that could be included when you put the journal together. Also, a few paints are nice to have for this. I prefer the heavy-bodied paints when I do mixed media of which I will have several colors already here. I use a charcoal pencil a lot in mixed media and stencils can be fun too.
#5) banner::we’ll call this extra credit. It seems that no matter how hard I try to plan free time, the gals who come just want to keep working on their projects so I usually have to say, “If you want free time, YOU TAKE FREE TIME!” It’s just that simple. This is a great project to just work in throughout the weekend. It’s a very usual scene to see ‘creativity’ working late into the evening as we watch a movie on the ‘big screen’. So, this banner can easily be slipped in where ever and when ever. For the pre-planning: Think of a word that is 3-5 letters and what you might have that can be added in…ephemera, dangly things, pictures, quotes, jewels {rhinestones are nice here}, words… Bring a variety of vintage papers {or use mine} and some ribbon[s] for hanging. This banner can be made for any holiday or annual occasion.
Don’t bring your whole craft room and don’t spend too much money on your craft purchases. I will have so much stuff here and often gals are sharing things here and there across the table. I promise, “You will be taken care of!”
You could show up with nothing and leave with beautiful things but it’s always better if each gals has her own supplies and things that make each project YOU. Possibly YOU might even have something that you want to share.
I will have a printer available for printing pictures and wording for your projects. I also have a Cricut machine for cutting out letters {especially nice for the banner}, etc. If you have pictures printed out ahead of time, I recommend that they are printed with a laser printer.
The cabins are well-equipped. The meal tables will be equipped abundantly as well. And, your creative side will be completely and abundantly inspired!
Joy over-flowing!
