fish tacos
fresh halibut and fresh venison roasted over the fire
A big part of our time in Alaska each year is fishing. My dad has an amazing set up for showing us a good time in the ocean waters. Mr. T is an avid fisherman and my dad loves to take him out most every day. As each afternoon closes in, we watch and listen for the boat to come in and we ready ourselves for the work to begin….cleaning, cleaning some more, packaging, freezing and cleaning up again. We end up with nice, tidy little packages that we can take home and unwrap throughout the year.
I absolutely love the fresh food that we eat each day. Mom and Dad have managed to have a beautiful garden here each summer. With the addition of the abundance of fresh fish that we get each day we eat really well.
It’s also heartwarming to see how the residents of this small community enjoy sharing their abundance. We had fresh venison show up at the door step a couple of times. Another day we were gifted some fresh jam made with the local wild blueberries. My parents also often share what they have, make and catch with others.
We will soon be wrapping up our visit here but will continue to appreciate the rewards that have come from it as we enjoy pictures, memories and seafood.
I wrote on my FB status yesterday that Mr. T took our girls out for a last-day-to-be-eight date by taking them to the mall to have their ears pierced….my dad took me fishing on my last day to be 48!

Happy Birthday Elaine! What a vacation you are having. Will you take me next year? lol So glad my granddaughter, Andrew and Noah got to go with you. My late husband always wanted to go to Alaska, but we didn’t make it. We did lots of other travel though.
