I mentioned in an earlier post how, as I pick raspberries, I get reflective and do a lot of thinking. Picking huckleberries takes that to another level. The area where I mainly pick is at an elevation of 5700[ish]. The beauty is amazing. The air fresh. It’s quiet and still. I tend to be a solitary picker and I enjoy the thoughts that swirl in my head as I occasionally glance around keeping an eye out for unwanted wildlife. Needless to say, I won’t go alone and it seems like I see the weeks of optimal picking go by with nary a partner. Last week I put out a plea on Facebook for a picking partner and I got a couple of takers. On Wenesday I went with Kathy and on Friday, I went with Holly and had enough warning so I could take along a tasty little picnic lunch to be enjoyed high up on the mountain. It was a sweet way to wrap up another season.

Elaine, these photos are so pretty! What a neat experience!
I have not had a chance to pick huckleberries in a few years! I loved the solitude of the area while chatting up my mother-in-law or anyone willing to go out and spend the time picking. I liked the berries when the leaves started to turn too; so sweet! These days it is a good idea though to bring along your extra friend…
Love it, Pistol Packing Mama! I picked a few to eat while up in the Skajit Valley area. Ii sure wish I would have taken the time to pick more. Love your pictures, beautiful area!
